Grounding

Grounding

Hi all,

As we head into the depths of winter I think it’s import to talk about grounding. Why is it so important in winter you ask ? A couple of reasons, mainly being because we rug up, we wear layers and protect ourselves from the elements. We stay inside more, we effectively hibernate. Grounding or earthing is, having that connection to the ground or earth.

Grounding, or earthing, refers to connecting psychically with the Earth.  There are numerous health benefits of the physical body being grounded.

The earth has its own energy, it’s own charge or electricity. We need to connect to that energy for our own stability. Without a connection to this energy, the cells in our body are unable to balance.

With our bodies in this modern era being surrounded by a wide rage of electrical items, all day every day. We need to be grounded more than ever.

Due to rubber or plastic soled shoes and mattresses we have little direct connection to the Earth, unless walking barefoot.

Symptoms of being ungrounded

  • feeling vague and unable to focus
  • anxiety with no cause
  • sudden dizziness
  • falling asleep while meditating
  • ‘cranky and out of sorts’ that comes on for no reason
  • hungry but food doesn’t satisfy you
  • inability to sleep
  • heaviness in the body
  • feeling ‘spaced out’
  • emotional and over-reactive
  • craving sugar and junk food
  • nausea
  • mental confusion
  • inability to focus on simple tasks
  • feeling like someone just unplugged your power cord

Benefits of Grounding

The most immediate noticeable effect people report from being grounded is that they ‘feel better’ and present.  You may feel more peaceful within yourself, feeling calmer with reduced stress levels.  If you have had aches and pains, this is often reduced. Improved digestion, sleep, blood circulation. Reduced Inflammation, stress, anxiety, irritability. Being more present & calmer.

How to Ground

Grounding can be physically, eating, using essential oils or crystals or by doing a visualisation.

Groundings are done so that we are connected to the earth and feeling the earths energy through our body. It is important to remain grounded while doing any spiritual work.

There are a number of ways you can physically ground yourself

  • Go for a walk outside – preferably barefoot
  • Touch any plant or tree outside.
  • Going for a bushwalk or hiking.
  • Go to the beach, lake or river.
  • Eating raw fruits and vegetables.
  • Stand in mud and let in squish up between your toes.
  • Go for a swim in a natural waterway.
  • Lie on the grass.
  • Take a bath in Himalayan Salt
  • Swim in the ocean
  • Do some gardening

Visualisations

There are quite a few visualisations you can do. These are few of my favourites.

  • Feet in the sand – see yourself standing on a beach. Let your feet sink in as each wave laps around your ankles, let them drop into the sand further and further. Until the water is lapping around your ankles and your feet are buried into the sand. Let the fish and any other sea creatures swim around your feet. When you are ready either make your way into the water or walk along the beach.

  • Red and White Lights – See a brilliant ball of bright red light glowing in your pelvis. Now see a white light enter your head, making it’s way down your spinal cord and into your pelvis. Let the two lights connect at your pelvis. Mix them together, then bring them up and around your pelvis and down each leg, all the way down in to your feet. Push the lights out of the souls of your feet and into the earth. Push them though the dirt, mud, the rock layers, past the crystals and deep deep down in to the earth. Keep pushing them down, down towards the centre of the earth, keep pushing, push right through until you can see mother Earths beating heart. Wrap your cords of light around the heart, tie them or attach them to the heart. Then see and feel the energy come back up those cords. Up, up, up through the earth , past the crystals & rocks. Through the dirt and into the souls of you feet. Feel it as it enters your feet. Bring it up through your body, all the way up your spine and let it explode like a fire cracker out through the top of your head. Watch as the sparks of energy come out and hit the ground. Feel it not only coming up through the souls of your feet but now being absorbed by your feet as the sparks hit the ground.

(based on a grounding by Cheryl Lee Harnish)

  • Imagine a creamy brown liquid come up through the souls of your feet and circulate it through your legs and pelvis. Then bring a cream down through your head, down through your body and let it mix in with the creamy brown, combine the two and let them flow through your legs then through the rest of your body. Up into your torso then down each arm and through your head. Let yourself be bathed in the creamy liquid.

  • Imagine yourself standing in mud. Watch as the mud squishes up between your toes.

  • See yourself standing in the dirt. Feel the tree roots rumbling from below, watch as they break through the surface of the dirt and wrap themselves around your ankles and up your legs. Feel the energy from the roots penetrate through your body.

  • Imagine yourself walking down a pathway through a forest. Notice the big beautiful trees. Notice any birds flying about up above you. As you walk along one tree stands out to you. Make your way towards that tree. As you stand in front of the tree, wrap your arms around it, give it a great big hug. As your hugging the tree, feel yourself being pulled inside of the tree. As you stand inside the tree, feel the energy of the roots, see the roots spread far and wide and deep down in to the earth. Feel the energy from the roots come up through your feet and into your body. Let it circulate through your body. Now feel the energy from the trunk of the tree, nice and sturdy, strong energy. Let that energy circulate through your body. Then feel the energy from the branches, the big thick wide ones to the tiny little twigs. Right up high and out wide. Feel the branch energy come down through your arms and circulate through your body. Lastly feel the energy from the leaves of the tree. Feel as the wind gently brushes them and the sun shines on them. Feel the energy of the leaves come down through your head, let it circulate through your body. Then feel all of the trees energy combine throughout your body – the roots, the trunk, the branches and the leaves. Feel at one with the tree. When your ready step out from the tree.

  • See a power cord coming from each foot and plugging it into the earth, then seeing a power cord coming down from the sky and connecting into to top of your head.

  • See a chain or rope coming from each heal and your tailbone, watch them as they break through the earths layers. Lower them down into the earth, watch them go way down deep and finally connecting to a giant rock or crystal. Feel yourself anchored into the earth.

A side note for our little Star Seeds - Star Children/People. As a mum and friend of a Star Seed, they are different haha ! I love them, I love their energy, it’s completely different to that of regular humans. Having done ‘Reiki’ or energy healing on many people, these little weirdos take the cake. It’s different let me tell you & I love it. Its exciting and fun.

If you’re unsure if you’re a star seed, there’s a few quick ways to tell.

  • Feeling that most humans are just different.
  • When it rains you withdraw or feel very low.
  • Cannot cope with windy days.
  • Disappearing  in your sleep, Feeling like you have left your body.
  • Sleeping like a log - not waking up for alarms, completely out to it.

Those are just a few pointers, if they resonate with you, do some research on Star Seeds.

Grounding for Star Children is quite different. With my friend I get them to see themselves rising up and spinning in a golden light. Grounding isn’t connected to the earth for them, its connecting to universe. Crystals that are great for Star Children are - Moldavite (it feels like home for them) Tektites, Shattuckite, Libyan Desert Glass, Lemurian Quartz.

These are just a few ideas on grounding. As usual you do you!  What suits some may not suit you. Find what works best for you.
